Field note 03

A field guide to travelling slowly

Amsterdam studio · September 2026 · 7 min

An annotated paper map and a copper instrument on a wooden table.

We are often asked how to ‘do’ a country in eight days. The honest answer is that you cannot, and that this is not a failure of logistics. A private journey is the decision to trade coverage for feeling.

Three practical rules

One: never more than one transfer that earns a seatbelt in a single day. Two: keep one evening unclaimed in every three. Three: choose rooms for the window, not the amenity list. These are not slogans. They are how a week remains a week.

The conversation first

Before destinations, we ask how you want to feel when you come home. Rested is different from astonished. Astonished is different from returned to yourself. The map comes after that sentence is finished.
